Truly special WWI era (1910s) black linen/cotton utility dress. Avant-garde design and construction. Note the structural shape of the shoulders and sleeves. Mock buttons with snap closures and hook and eye at the waist.

There was a stark difference between fashions before the Great War and after. Wartime fashions were often more somber and made for utility. This dress is a great example a working class garment- possibly even government or military related with the bold shoulders, modesty and durable fabric.
